An investigation is underway after a theft took place at actor Cary Elwes' Los Angeles-area home last week.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY on Wednesday that deputies responded to a theft call at "The Princess Bride" star's residence on Feb. 28.
Thus far, the investigation has "revealed a theft had occurred," but there are no suspects at this time. "The investigation is active/ongoing," the statement said. USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Elwes for comment.
TMZ was first to report the news.
Though the 61-year-old is best known for playing Westley in Rob Reiner's cult-favorite 1987 film, the English actor also starred in some major titles in the '90s, including Mel Brooks' "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," the Jim Carrey film "Liar, Liar" and two-time Oscar nominee "Twister."
Elwes' more recent credits include "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One," Netflix sci-fi epic "Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire" and Season 3 of "Stranger Things."
Though "The Princess Bride" is 36 years old, the prolific actor doesn't appear to be tiring of being associated with the film for nearly four decades. In 2014, he released a memoir titled "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From the Making of The Princess Bride," in which he details stories from being on set for the movie, which also starred Robin Wright.
However, in 2019, Elwes revealed he wouldn't be interested in remaking the beloved movie.
"There’s a shortage of perfect movies in this world," he posted on X, formerly Twitter. "It would be a pity to damage this one."
