Cameron Mathison is looking ahead following his breakup with Vanessa Mathison.
Two weeks after the General Hospital star announced that he and his wife were ending their 22-year marriage, Cameron shared insight into how he is proceeding on a new journey.
"With the right mindset and guidance… pain, grief, confusion, fear, and disbelief… can all be our best teachers," he wrote on Instagram Aug. 16. "Grateful for all the beautiful things in my life, as well as for the challenges and difficulties."
The 54-year-old continued, "I don’t know what this next chapter holds for me, but I’m approaching it with gratitude, acceptance, and the determination to be positive and to benefit others every chance I get."
And Vanessa—who shares kids Lucas, 21, and Leila, 18, with Cameron—will be rooting him on despite their separation. In fact, the model showed support to her ex by posting five heart emojis in the comments section, prompting Cameron to reply with two of his own.
Indeed, the former couple's breakup was an amicable one. As they noted in a joint statement July 31, "We remain friends and both wish the best for one another."
"We hold gratitude in our hearts for the wonderful years we shared together," Cameron and Vanessa added. "Our children have been and will continue to be our highest priority, and we will forever share in our devotion and love for them."
Since then, Cameron has been spotted out with esthetician Aubree Knight.
As for Vanessa? She's been embracing what she calls her "first real summer" since removing her breast implants.
"First time exposing my scars and my new shape," the 57-year-old wrote on Instagram June 28, sharing pictures of herself in a bikini. "I contemplated removing my scars from these photos … but they are a part of me and my journey, so I decided to leave them."
In an Aug. 15 post accompanied by another image from the same photo shoot, Vanessa added, "Life… messy, complicated, and beautiful."
